Consumption - Debt Service - Penalties
Consumption
Water consumption quantities are obtained from the water company (monthly or quarterly) and are utilized to calculate your sewer bill.
Sewer Bill Charges = $3.75 per one thousand gallons of water used
Minimum Bill = $11.25 (Includes usage of one thousand, two thousand or three thousand gallons of water)
Consumption above three thousand gallons of water is billed at an additional $3.75 for each one thousand gallons of water used.
Debt Service
The Debt Service charge is a fee charged to pay for a recent treatment plant expansion ($30 million) required by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. Each service location (residence, business) is assessed a monthly fee of $13.24 ($39.72 quarterly) per EDU (Equivalent Dwelling Unit). The Debt Service Fee is shown on the bill as the base debt service fee multiplied by the number of assessed EDU’s. Most households will only be assessed one (1) EDU. Customers who use higher volumes of water (restaurants, laundromats) will have higher EDU assessments. EDU values are assessed to each customer by their own municipality. (See Explanation of Debt Service for more information on how the debt service was determined).
Penalties
A five percent (5%) penalty is added to the bill after twenty (20) days
The amount due plus the penalty will bear interest at a rate of one-half percent (1/2%) per month on any fraction thereof until paid.
